Why the owners wanted a shutter on the bar
The cabana is a new cedar build at the edge of the pool deck, with a wide serving window and a live-edge wood counter facing the water. During the day it is the bar; the rest of the time the window is open to the yard, with bottles, glasses and a fridge inside.
The owners wanted to close that window at the end of the day and at the end of the season, and they wanted it to look like part of the cabana rather than an add-on. A roll-up shutter does both: closed, it fills the opening above the counter; open, it disappears into the box.

How we fitted it inside the roof
The cabana has no soffit depth outside the window for a box, so we mounted the box on the inside, up against the rafters above the opening, and ran the guide rails down the inside of the window jambs to the counter. The curtain closes down onto the bar top.
We measured the opening after the siding was on and had the shutter built to that size. Because the box is inside, the outside face of the cabana stays clean cedar with nothing above the window but the roof overhang.
What the owners have now
The shutter is motorized and runs from a remote. Closing the bar is one press from the pool deck, and the black slats sit flat in the cedar opening above the counter.
In the morning the curtain rolls up out of sight into the box inside the roof and the serving window is fully open again, counter and all. Nothing on the outside of the cabana shows that there is a shutter at all.
